Year 9 Online Maths Masterclasses:

Also appropriate for High-achieving Year 8 pupils

Block 1 Commences Wednesday 11th November, 6-7pm

Block 1 focus: Rigorous Algebraic Proof & Manipulation

Price: £14 per student / lesson (or £70 for a 6-Week Term Pass)

Course Overview & Philosophy

Year 9 is the pivotal transition year in secondary mathematics. While pupils may be comfortable with basic algebra, top-tier GCSE performance requires a fundamental mindset shift: moving from finding an answer to constructing a rigorous mathematical proof.

This course bridges the gap between lower-secondary arithmetic and the abstract demands of Grade 8/9 GCSE and Further Maths. Pupils learn formal algebraic notation, functional thinking f(x), vector geometry, and non-linear iteration—building the deep mathematical maturity needed to excel over the coming GCSE years. This course would benefit BOTH Year 9 pupils and high-achieving year 8 pupil.

Key Pupil Benefits

  • Eliminating the "GCSE Shock": Gives pupils a significant head start on the hardest 10% of the Higher GCSE syllabus before Year 10 begins.

  • Further Maths Readiness: Introduces concepts (like function composition and formal proof) that lay the groundwork for Level 2 Further Maths.

  • UKMT Intermediate Prep: Prepares students for the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge held in early Spring.
